I am a naturally curious person and I like to create and make things with my hands. I have been painting and drawing since I was very little and have tried out many, many crafts and I am sure there are still many I will want to try. The MagpieMagic brand started with my jewellery and describes my creative process - from collecting unusual (shiny) materials to then combining them in pleasing jewellery or sculptures. My approach is very tactile, often whimsical and I try to use eco friendly materials like recycled glass beads from Ghana and hand dyed yarns and wool from (where possible) UK producers. I love using vintage materials in my jewellery because I feel that it is a great opportunity for that broken necklace (lonely earring, bracelet) to be loved once again. All my jewellery is unique and I will not make the same piece twice, although I will interpret a piece of jewellery again for you if you like one that has already been sold (just click on the Commissions button in the appropriate section to enquire for details). A lot of my jewellery is what I'd call 'wearable art'. It's not just a thing to hang around your neck, trendy today, gone tomorrow, but it makes a statement about you and shows the world how you feel about yourself. For this reason I use high quality materials and unique techniques to create something special that will be with you for many years and I am happy to take on commissions to make something just for you. My paintings and digital art are the same in that my always curious mind explores the world around and inside me, re-interprets old ideas in a new way and so hopefully speaks to you. More information about my art is in the Art section and my portfolios and webshops (accessible via the Art section). My knitting however is just a bit of fun I like to share. I love making things but there are only so many scarves, shrugs, hats and wrist warmers one person can wear.... Enjoy your look around and feel free to contact me with any questions. |
